STEMpower was privileged to receive a group from Prometric Testing, a top American test administration firm, on a cooperative visit with the objective of determining avenues of assistance towards STEM education on the African continent.

The initial meeting took place at the STEMpower Fab Lab where the Country Director of STEMpower, Dr. Simenew Keskes, presented a detailed overview of the mission and activities of the organization. He talked about the establishment of STEM Centers throughout Africa and the provision of customized mentorship, training, and resources to young emerging innovators.

"We are committed to ensuring girls, young people, and poor communities are not left behind during the ongoing technology revolution," he stated.

The delegation then paid a visit to the Kotebe Science Shared Campus, where Prometric officials engaged with students working hard on their STEM projects. Our students showcased their inventions, described how they designed it, and elucidated how belonging to a friendly and resource-abundant ecosystem has been life-altering.

Kevin Baird, Chief Experience Officer at Prometric, was also impressed with what was being done, commenting, "This is great! We recognize that technology advancement is hand in hand with economic development, and this is the one organization of its kind on the African continent that's bringing youth to technology."

Both delegations deliberated on possible spheres of cooperation and synergy, especially in the areas of digital competencies development, evaluation, and championing inclusive access to quality STEM education throughout Africa. The visit is a positive step toward strengthening more robust collaborations that can scale impact and unleash the full potential of African youth.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Prometric Testing team for their presence and for engaging in such meaningful conversation. Special thanks to Winta Yohannes, STEMpower Board member, for her very valuable presence and contributions that brought much substance to the success of this discussion.

STEMpower looks forward to the potential that can be delivered through this alliance and anticipates ongoing engagement with Prometric as we collaborate to transform the face of STEM education in Africa.
