STEMpower has established its 143rd STEM center at Université Abdou Moumouni de Niamey, the capital of Niger, in western Africa.

Niger has long needed a helping hand, as reportedly only 10% of primary students achieve minimal reading and math skills. STEMpower hopes that the new STEM Center, equipped with a computer lab and an electronics lab, encourages students to learn and innovate.

Prof. Saley Bisso, Dean of Faculty of Sciences and Technics at the university, says, "Our new STEM Center responds directly to the gaps we face in science education. We hope it becomes a spark that inspires more investments in hands-on learning, encourages young people to pursue STEM careers, and ultimately drives homegrown solutions for Niger’s future."

With barely any support by international aid agencies, STEMpower has quietly brought quality STEM education to nearly every country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Perhaps within a year, thanks to our donors and creative vendors such as DHL and smartAID at least one STEM Center will be operating in every country on the sub-continent.

I was reminded of my own educational journey when I recently learned about the new STEM Center that opened at Université Abdou Moumouni in Niger. Students' learning and preparation for STEM careers can be significantly improved by having access to resources like computer and electronics labs. I've frequently struggled to balance my studies, and occasionally I've needed assistance to Help me with my online class so I could stay focused on opportunities like these. Such programs give Africa hope for long-term, sustainable growth.
